Born from the commissioning. Built for the long haul.

The USS New Jersey (SSN 796) Support Organization grew out of the original Commissioning Committee. We carry forward one responsibility: keep the crew connected to the state they represent.

Commissioning day was September 14, 2024, at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Middletown, New Jersey. That day marked a milestone. Our work is what comes after. As long as sailors serve aboard SSN 796, we stand behind them.

We are a bridge. 135 sailors in Norfolk, Virginia. Millions of New Jerseyans ashore. We move support from one side to the other in the form of care packages, awards, events, and recognition that tells every crew member: New Jersey has the watch.

What we do

  • Ship care packages to the crew in Norfolk, VA
  • Fund morale events and shore-based hospitality
  • Coordinate crew awards and recognition programs
  • Support sailors' families while they're underway
  • Connect New Jersey businesses to the boat's mission
  • Preserve the legacy of all 3 ships named New Jersey

The name carries a spirit.

SSN 796 sails with Newark's pride, Camden's strength, and Elizabeth's resolve. Our support echoes that same character: tough, loyal, and proud.

Naval heritage

SSN 796 is the third Navy vessel to carry New Jersey's name. She links directly to Battleship New Jersey (BB-62) berthed in Camden, carrying that legacy beneath the waves.

Crew connection

We send hometown snacks, gear, and messages to 135 sailors stationed at Naval Station Norfolk. Every package is a reminder that New Jersey is watching and proud.

Community backbone

New Jersey businesses, veterans, schools, and residents all play a role. We coordinate their support into real, tangible impact for the crew.

Submarine service is silent. We make the support loud.

These sailors operate below the surface. Their missions are classified. Their sacrifices are invisible. That's exactly why New Jersey rallies for them.

Morale events and hospitality

We host shore-based events that give sailors a real connection to their home state when they're in port.

Awards and recognition

We fund commemorative awards so outstanding sailors are recognized by name, by community, by state.

Family support resources

Families ashore carry their own weight. We provide resources and connections to help them through every deployment.

Legacy preservation

We document and share the story of SSN 796, her crew, and the Garden State's proud naval heritage.

A national standard for crew support.

We are building a grassroots model that lasts beyond any single deployment. Three commitments guide everything we do.

01

Every New Jersey citizen can contribute in a meaningful way

02

Every sailor knows they are backed 100% by the state they represent

03

Every port call feels like a homecoming
